New Library services platform

A new Library search portal and Library Services platform is coming in January 2019

Project Overview

From January 2019, University of Sydney Library clients will be able to use a new Library Services Platform. The single interface will replace CrossSearch, the Catalogue and MyLoans, providing a one-stop search tool for research, teaching and learning that will enable user-friendly searching and requesting of library resources.

Status updates

The new service is scheduled to go live on January 8, 2019. For more information, please contact Crystal Choi, Associate Director Engagement – crystal.choi@sydney.edu.au

Need to know

What does this mean for you?

Searching

A new single portal will provide search and discovery for all library collections. A separate, traditional library catalogue will not be a part of the new system.

MyLoans

Some information from MyLoans, including current loans, will carry over to the new system, however some information will not:

  • Reading (Borrowing) History – will not be available after December 30. You will be able to download and save your reading history up until 5pm, 30 December 2018. Access instructions on how to do this here
  • MyLoans feeds
  • Requests for items on loan or held at another campus – you will be able to request an item until 16 December 2018. Requests not filled or requests made after 16 December will not be migrated. You will be able to place requests again starting 8 January 2019.
  • Holds – if you have a hold ready for pick up by 16 December 2018, you will have until your usual expiry date to pick it up. After 21 December 2018 holds will not be migrated.

Unit of study readings (eReserve)

eReserve links to Library content will be migrated to the new system after the scheduled go-live on 8th January.

Milestones

Library staff have been working hard to get the new integrated search interface and platform ready to go.

  • June 2018
Project kick off – After a formal evaluation and tender process, University of Sydney Library signs the contract with Ex Libris for the new Library Services Platform Alma and the integrated search interface, Primo VE
  • July - August 2018
Library staff Project Implementation Team and Functional Expert Teams begin to meet weekly to work with Ex Libris to plan, test and implement the migration of data, configuration of workflows and practice in the sandbox across all functional areas.
  • August 2018
Library staff work together to learn about new workflows and processes that can be taken advantage of to save time and effort for both users of the Library, and Library staff.
  • September - October 2018
Library staff conduct testing including user focus groups across all functional areas and system integrations to customise Primo VE (search interface) and Alma (integrated library services platform) to ensure that it meets the needs of clients and Library staff.

Keep an eye out for more updates as the project progresses.
