On Friday, 29 August 2025, the Library will once again join the global celebration of Wear it Purple Day – a movement that began with students and has grown into an international symbol of support and love for LGBTQIA+ young people. Read more about the history of the Day on the Wear it Purple website.
This year’s theme is "Bold Voices, Bright Futures", inviting people to recognise and amplify the voices of young LGBTQIA+ people, championing their right to speak, dream, and lead with pride.
Lee Evatt, this year's Wear It Purple Theme Artist, expresses his desire to amplify the voices of performers and activists. "This year's Wear It Purple theme was Bold Voices Bright Futures," he explains. "For this design, I took inspiration from queer communities that I have participated in as a photographer and more recently as a performer. Performers and activists were the first thing that came to mind. I wanted to represent different people of different generations to display a positive outlook towards LGBTIQ+ futures.”
The Library supports Wear it Purple Day, as we strive to foster a supportive, safe, empowering and inclusive environment for the community.
