White, Thomas (1593-1676)
The grounds of obedience and government.
London : Printed by J. Flesher, for Laurence Chapman ..., 1655.

The historian John Henry has described this work as "an attempt to ingratiate English Catholics with Cromwell which advocated government by social contract and defended the regicide [of Charles I]". Needless to say the strategy came undone after the restoration of kingship in 1660. Yet the work is a nice example of Catholic political lobbying during the Interregnum.
