Library eResources are protected by copyright

University of Sydney Library eResources—including databases and their contents (including images, graphics, indexing and abstracts), audio-only recordings, audio-visual works, artworks, musical works, books and journal articles—are in most cases protected by copyright and subject to licence agreements between the University and content vendors (“Publishers”) that may place restrictions on how you use them.

Accessing and using University of Sydney Library eResources

By accessing or using University of Sydney Library eResources, you agree to use them in a legal, ethical and responsible manner and in compliance with:

Failure to comply with one or more of these could result in suspension or revocation of your access to the University of Sydney Library, as well as other disciplinary steps. In addition, you may be subject to direct action by the Publisher or copyright owner. 

Permitted uses

University of Sydney Library eResources are made available for your personal research or study. You may only use the University of Sydney Library eResources (including for your own personal research or study) in accordance with the policies listed above, each Publisher’s terms and conditions of use and, unless contrary to those terms and conditions, the Copyright Act 1968 (Cth).

Prohibited uses

Except as permitted under each Publisher’s terms and conditions of use, you must not:

  • use eResource content as an input to generative AI products or services
  • copy, share, download or post eResource content, including onto mailing lists, bulletin boards, websites or social media

  • sell, rent, license, supply, assign or otherwise authorise the use of any eResources by any other person or organisation

  • use, or authorise the use of, the eResources for any commercial purpose 

  • record, publicly perform, adapt, translate or broadcast; or

  • use spiders, robots or crawlers or any other automated process (or any equivalent manual process) to download or extract eResources without express permission from the Publisher.
