Virtual reality (VR) creates a digital world that provides a “near-real” experience. 

By engaging your senses of sight, hearing and touch, VR headsets can immerse you in an experience or location as if they’re unfolding right around you.  

Uses for VR range from general entertainment purposes to educational and research applications.

Our Library technology spaces, ThinkSpace and CreateSpace, are equipped with the following VR headsets: 

  • Oculus Rift (Wired into PC)

  • Meta Quest (Wireless)

Booking is free for staff and students. VR with pre-downloaded applications will be provided in Library technology spaces.

How to use VR headsets

1 Open the Oculus Software and setup the Oculus Rift

Our friendly Peer Learning Advisors (PLAs) will be onsite to assist you with setup. 

Open the Oculus software on the PC . Follow the “Device” menu on the software to configure the sensors and wireless controllers.

On the Meta Quest, the portable device can be turned on by the power button. 

2 Wear the Oculus headset

Clean and disinfect the equipment before wearing the headset. 

Centre the headset on your face so that it sits directly in front of your eyes. Tighten the side tabs as necessary. 

3 Navigate the Oculus library

Browse and explore the following apps and games that are available. You can also suggest a program from Oculus Experience that we should acquire.
