Requests and recalls

You may request a book if it is out on loan, or you may have received a recall notice for an item you've borrowed if someone else has requested it

Requesting an item that is on loan to someone else

  1. Click on the Request button located at the top or bottom of the screen
  2. Enter your Unikey and password or your name and borrowers number
  3. Choose a library to collect the item from. If you do not choose a library your request will not be successful
  4. Click on the circle button next to the item you want
  5. Click on the REQUEST SELECTED ITEM button
  6. You will receive the message: Your request for this item has been sent to the library
  7. To see when the item is available for pickup, or to cancel your request, you can go to MyLoans.

Requesting something from another library or from storage

  • Books from another campus are available only to students and staff if no copies are available at your campus
  • Items held in Storage are available to all University of Sydney Library card holders
  • Request books via Request in the catalogue
  • Request journal articles via MyLoans Login
  • Journal articles from another campus are available to postgraduate students and staff only.

Getting books through BONUS+

If an item in our Library is unavailable, or we do not own a particular title, click on the logo to request a loan

Who can use BONUS+

  • undergraduate students
  • postgraduate students
  • staff.

What are the BONUS+ loan conditions?

The loan period is 21 days:

  • one renewal is permitted if no one else has requested the item
  • requested items that are returned late incur a fine of $10 per day
  • items can be returned to any University of Sydney Library location
  • distance students must allow postage time for items to be returned within the 21 day loan period.

How many BONUS+ items can I request?

  • Undergraduate students may have 5 active requests.
  • Postgraduate students may have 10 active requests.
  • Staff may have 10 active requests.

How do I request an item from BONUS+ ?

  1. If you can't locate an available item using the library catalogue, click on the BONUS+ logo
  2. Search by title or author
  3. Click on the REQUEST THIS ITEM link
  4. Institution is Uni of Sydney
  5. Login with your UniKey or Library borrower number
  6. Select pickup location

When can I collect my item?

  • usually within 3-5 working days (up to 7 days if arriving from New Zealand)
  • you will receive an email when it is ready for pickup
  • items must be collected within 7 days

How can I renew, cancel or check my BONUS+ request?

  • you'll get an email to let you know that your item has arrived
  • to renew, cancel, or see the progress of your request log into your MyLoans account

What if I lose a BONUS+ item?

  • please contact your home library to report a lost BONUS+ item
  • the standard lost item charge of $150 applies
  • replacements are not accepted by BONUS+ participating libraries

Items that are recalled

  • You have 7 days to return an item that has been recalled to any of our libraries
  • Fines accrue at $10/day
  • Email notifications are sent for your convenience, however it is best to check your MyLoans regularly to avoid fines
  • It is best to return books before going away on holidays although you can return items by post (we recommend registered mail)
