Finding an item

Locate the Library 

  1. Find the item in the Library catalogue.
  2. Click on the title and see the Library name and call number for physical items under the heading “Borrow”. 
  3. Go to the Library where the item is held. If the item is located at Fisher Library, see the Fisher Library Map to know which floor to visit.
  4. Use the call number to find the item on the shelf. 

How to use a call number 

  1. Every Library item has a number on the spine that tells you where it lives. This is the call number.
  2. The call number is broken down into the following parts. Take note of spaces and decimal points.

Short Loans 

Items that are required texts on Reading Lists can be found in the Short Loans collection.

To find a Short Loan item:

  1. Find the item in the Library catalogue.
  2. Click on the title and see the Library name and call number under the heading “Borrow”. 
  3. Go to the Library where the item is held, and you’ll find the Short Loans collection near the information desk. 
  4. Use the call number to find the item on the shelf in the Short Loans area.
  5. All Short Loan items must be borrowed using the self-checkout machines. If unsure seek assistance from Library staff.

Missing items 

If you can’t find an item on the shelf, speak to staff at the Library information desk. They will help you find the item or mark the item as missing and recommend alternatives.
